Father's Day Handprint Craft Ideas

Father’s Day is just around the corner so we’re getting crafty for Dad.  Check out our Father’s Day Handprint Craft idea – turn your child’s hand into a fish!

We love to incorporate handprints into our homemade gifts for Daddy as it makes a special memento and the kids love tactile activities – like pouring paint or using dot paint on their hands to help make the pattern for a “Fish” on their card as we did in this little activity here.

Kenzie and I whipped this craft up in 10 minutes it was so easy!

What you’ll need to make a Fish Handprint for Father’s Day

Blue construction paper, wiggly eyes, glue or glue stick, markers and crayons, and paint.

We bought wiggly eyes, construction paper, crayons and markers at Walmart and used some Dot paint that we already had from home. You can use any paint for the activity – traditional paint will leave a thicker handprint on your craft, but the dot paint is a bit less messy and leaves a more “vague” handprint so Kenzie was able to elaborate with crayons and more paint on her own.

Steps to Make a Fish Handprint Craft:

Paint your child’s hand then let them stamp it on the blue construction paper. You can paint it in various colors so you’ll get a multi-colored fish.

Next, glue on the wiggly eye and make a smile for your fish.  Depending on your child’s age – you can either let them decorate and write on the card, or you can take the lead on that part. Adding strands of seaweed on your ocean floor looks really cute too!

Another saying that looks really great on Father’s Day cards with Fish is this cute one here …. ” To Dad, You are a Great Catch!”
