Did you have a special nurse that impacted you and your newborn? If so, you can nominate them for the  Pampers Swaddlers Thank You Nurses Awards.

Pampers has launched the second annual Pampers Swaddlers Thank You Nurses Awards to honor Labor & Delivery nurses, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurses and Postpartum nurses around the country. Kenzie’s Birth Story & Nurses We Loved

I vividly remember 2 very special nurses that helped me  and baby Kenzie when she was born. The first was the most amazing labor and delivery nurse, Jackie, who saw me through a fast and furious labor that became very critical at the moment of delivery. I was at the hospital and they didn’t realize how fast my labor progressed since my arrival 2 hours earlier. I didn’t feel well — at ALL — cause apparently I was having a baby! She checked me and saw that I was 10 cm dilated. You can imagine the panic that set in as she realized the doctor on call was not even at the hospital since it was midnight! She assured me he’d be there in 5 minutes as he lived down the street. The doc made it in time for the delivery but when he did, we realized Kenzie’s cord was wrapped around her neck and my pelvis was too small. They struggled to get her out and I remember Jackie encouraging me and holding my hand and telling me everything would be okay. Kenzie was born blue and not crying but luckily they were able to resuscitate her. As soon as she was born, Jackie – who also doubled as a newborn and NICU nurse — gave AMAZING care and total focus on our new bundle of joy — which was the most important thing!  Luckily, they only had to keep baby Kenzie in the NICU for 4 hours to monitor her breathing. I can’t fathom experiencing this stressful delivery without a caring nurse like Jackie who was with me – and my new baby – every step of the way.

Pampers Swaddlers Thank You Nurses Awards

In the early days of a newborn, so many nurses help our precious, sweet babies – and us Mamas. Since Kenzie was born early, she had to be carefully monitored. She had jaundice and needed to be treated at home with a special blue light treatment. A visiting nurse, Ellen, also came every other day for about 5-7 days to check on Kenzie,  take blood samples and help me manage keeping my sweet girl hooked up to a blue light treatment and plugged into the wall 24/7!  Of course I was a nervous wreck, but with each visit, Ellen made sure Kenzie was doing great and that I knew all the signs, symptoms and best ways to care for a newborn with jaundice.
